Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) & Cold Laser TherapyJust as with the spine, the wrist contains many bones and joints that can become irritated, inflamed and restricted, causing pain, numbness, tingling and weakness. Repetitive movements, micro-trauma from racquet sports, and vibration can all trigger these symptoms. People who work on computers, musicians, gardeners and carpenters are all subjected to those types of stresses and strains. The carpal tunnel is formed by a band of ligaments and the small bones in the wrist. Nerves, tendons and blood vessels all travel through the wrist area and are subject to pressure from swelling, joint restriction and scar tissue. Wrist pain can also be caused by muscle tightness, scar tissue and joint restriction at the elbow, shoulder or neck. This is called “double crush syndrome.” A chiropractor will check all of these areas in order to use the most effective treatment to get you out of pain quickly. Treatment: In our office we use state of the art cold laser therapy as well as soft tissue mobilization and adjustments to treat CTS. We will also evaluate your posture and muscle strength and flexibility in order to provide you with a home care program to keep the problem from returning.
